We've been upgraded to Biz Class!

OK, don't be misled by the title. 50% was upgraded using our frequent flyer miles and the other 50% was paid by yours truly. I think I've gotten used to traveling in business class for flights more than 5 hours. The comfort cannot be compromised. It's healthier too you know! :D

I was traveling on business class alot when I was in Moscow and Italy. Since I came to Kenya in May 2008, this will be my 3rd time traveling back to Malaysia and was on economy class only once - December 2008. Man - it was such a torture during Dubai-Singapore leg!!! That leg is 8 hours and being in that confined space for that long - hell. I mean if it was that leg alone, maybe it wouldn't be so bad but take Nairobi-Dubai (5 hours) and transit time into account, you'll trade business class for anything in the world!!!

The other reason I paid for the upgrade is also as a birthday gift to Nelson. He has never experienced traveling in business class before and I couldn't find anything suitable in Nairobi to get him for his birthday so I thought maybe this might be a pretty good gift, and a good excuse to pamper myself!

So anyway, YAY!!! Hahahahaha

See you guys real soon (those who are coming back in Sept)

Only in Africa......

Minniemoose: congratulations on your approval then but you're sacrificing MY Cape Town trip too! But it's ok lah......how long are off for anyway??? But it's so weird I mean you still do have days left for this year right? If so then why do you have to trade one for the other - it is your entitlement you know. But I'll shut up if you haven't got any remainders...la la la la.....

Alinta: I heard you won't be joining the fun? Why not???? You should try to convince The Boss to allow you to come with her you know. I miss the fun we had the last time - remember the moustache, chocolates in the room etc? It's crazy girl! We had a blast and I honestly hope that we'll get to relive that moment again. I mean wanting to see you once a year is not asking too much is it? *rolling my eyes*

Oh and by the way, where are the rest of the people!!!! They have not joined the blog! And the ones already here, START BLOGGING!

I'm gonna show you guys 2 photos I caught from my house today. I heard the noise but maybe I was too engrossed in what I was doing or I was just plain slow in reacting so these are not the best shot but you can still see what I'm talking about. The road outside my house is a very busy road OK and this happened at around 5pm today. This only happens in Africa man........Enjoy!!!

PS: You might not be able to see it coz I'm stupid enough to not include them in the picture (I'm kicking myself now) but there is a long queue of cars waiting patiently behind as the cows are parading. Not a horn was sounded. That's how patient the Africans/Kenyans are and that's exactly the trait we cannot tolerate because they are the same in everything they do!!! They take it slow......reeeeaaaalllllll sssllllllllooooowwwww - in Swahili, POLE POLE (pronounced po-le) means slowly....URGH!

I'll be bacK!

As most of you might know I was having trouble getting time off work for the Sept. reunion....

The good news is, I've managed to get approval for my leave and that means I'll be seeing you guys and not missing out on all the fun!!

The bad news is that I managed to do this by bringing foward my annual leave from December and that means no Cape Town holiday this year-end :(

But it's ok, what's more important than seeing you guys right?
I cannot wait already!

Quote of the day

I just love this quote. Whoever came up with it is a genius!

Every lady hopes that her daughter will marry a better man than she did and is convinced that her son will never find a wife as good as his father did!!

A typical meal in Kenya, Chef: Miss An Shii Ng

This blog is too quiet man......getting freaking eerie and it's soon becoming MY blog which is so not the case. Don't let it go that way puhlzz......

Who managed to get a glimpse of the total eclipse today raise your hands? I doubt I'll see any hands raised. Apparently weather isn't on anybody's side - it's cloudy all over the view-points! Oh well, wait till year 2132 then but I seriously think that I'd be 6 feet under by then.

Anyway, ever wonder what a typical meal for us is like in Kenya when I'm the chef? What do I put shove into Nelson's poor tummy? I'm still an amateur in cooking and being a housewife so cooking ideas are extremely limited. The limited range of ingredients doesn't help either. I'll try to post as many different dishes as I can also will include some of the baking I do when I've got too much time on my hands. Whether Nelson's lucky or not, you be the judge ;)

So first on dinner table today is a combination of broccoli, chicken and soup!

A simple soup - my hubby is a Cantonese and soup plays a big role in a Cantonese household. They have soup in at least one of their meals, usually dinner. This is named ABC soup - I don't know why named as such but I supposed because of its simplicity. It's got tomatoes, carrots, onions and some put potatoes in them. Just put a couple of pork ribs with them and you'll get a wholesome soup! Very healthy!

This one looks pretty scary huh? It's chicken fillet in hoisin sauce coated with toasted sesame seeds. This is one of my "special" dishes which I try not to serve often and it's also one of my hubby's favourite.

This is broccoli with dried shrimps in oyster sauce. Broccoli is extremely cheap and it's everywhere here in Kenya (it's considered an expensive veg in Malaysia so you don't get to eat it often) so it's part of our diet almost every week but I try to alternate it. There's just that many ways you can cook a broccoli.

Very interesting website

I got to know this website through a friend and it's pretty fun, for awhile. The URL is on the cover of the magazine so I won't repeat.

Take a look at a few which I have done. Nothing fancy, just trying the website out. It's free, no registration needed. You just need to upload a picture from your PC, they will then show you how the picture look like on all the available mag covers and just pick the one you like the most! Unless you have creative cells, I bet you're gonna find this website boring after awhile. It didn't take me long - after 3 pics and I was out of there. I might return but for now, it's more than enough "fun"

The downside of it is you can't actually scale or edit anything. Once it's uploaded, it's done deal. If your face is covered by words or whatever, tough luck.

Have fun!!!

Announcement: I'm Studying

*waives* Hello Jules, Wes, Lynn, Moose, Ali (!!!) and SS :D

Listen up people! Pay attention now! Looks like a lot of people hasn't got the news I'm back to school. Yep, I'm studying again!!! Well just to pass sometime and to improve myself. I realise that having left engineering for 6 years will not get me back into the industry ever again. The money minded and business minded me decided to take up a course in Financial Planning instead. I'm doing it online with College for Financial Planning (duh! how dodgy!) of Colorado. It's only a Certificate but it's my stepping stone towards becoming a Chartered Financial Planner. Planning to take the exams for it next July and hopefully - better start praying for me now people - I'll pass the first time. It's not cheap ok!!! I have to pay like USD600 just to take the exams and you can only take the exams in States!! *winks* Which means, hehehehe, I'll be flying to States in July to just to take the exams and nobody can say nothing!!! If I do not pass then it's another USD600 (IF they do not increase the price but I'm sure they will) and air ticket+hotel+meals expenses!! That doesn't even include trips to factory outlets! Nelson's already trying to decide between California or Florida. I can choose to take the exam in any of the 25 locations countrywide. I'm thinking NY or CA. Actually Arkansas has crossed my mind too! Freeeeee accommodation man.

Pirated version of Minnie Mouse: I thought you're supposed to be on annual leave? You're in Milan on business or is it a private trip??? I want bags but I can't afford any!!! My birthday is very near *hint* *hint*

I'm sooooo poor now I can't afford anything! I have to save for 6 months just to buy my husband a birthday meal which by the way hasn't happened yet. He hasn't joined the blog yet so I can speak freely for now (yes, I know he can see back-dated posts when he joins) I hope to be able to make up for it this weekend. It didn't happen on his birthday itself because I fell ill :((

Anybody in this blog has made "yau char kwai" a.k.a Chinese Fritters before?? I kept trying and trying but I just can't get it to become fluffy! It doesn't expand much....just a little....I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong!! Does resting the dough after shaping them into "yau char kwai" affects the expansion later on??? Urgh!! Annoying.....

OK let me see, I have invited Father Ricky, Marcus, A.Flo, U. Hock, A. Eng, A. Yan, Mummy and Nelson. Whoever I have left out, please let me know OK? OH GOSH! I forgot the head of the gangster Kelvin!!!! OK OK I'll send an invite to him now.

PS: my 2 little sisters, you might have to help the senior Lees along in this a little bit OK (ie mummy and A.Yan)......

Isn't technology great?

This idea struck me when I was looking through the blogs I shared with my paternal cousins which has now become a sleeping blog....everyone seem to have lost the heat and have not been posting there anymore. But it was great to re-visit. Funny stuff we've got there. Then it got me thinking why haven't I thought about doing one involving more family members? I couldn't control additions into the other blog coz I am not the owner.

Anyway, I suppose all of us can post something every now and again so that we know how everybody's doing since we're all over the place! So hard to keep track!!! Like I didn't even know Liz is pregnant or A.Flo didn't know I've started studying again. Doesn't have to be serious, just mess around! Come to think of it, we are spread over 5 out of the 7 continents! Wow....not bad, not bad......

Let's get this Kopitiam as noisy as it can be ladies and gentlemen!!!
